By Borja Bes — CrossFit Athlete & Hyrox Finisher
Banded Glute Bridge is a floor-based hip extension with added demand to keep the knees tracking outward. Equipment: Mini band, Floor mat. To establish a repeatable position, place a mini band above the knees, lie on the back, and plant the feet close enough to keep the shins near vertical. From there, press the knees gently into the band, lift the hips by squeezing the glutes, pause, and lower without losing alignment. The movement belongs in deliberate strength, accessory, or compatible conditioning work rather than being added randomly for novelty. Do not chase height by arching the lower back; the rep ends when the hips and ribs stop moving together. Select resistance that preserves the intended pattern from the first repetition to the last.
Quick answer
Banded Glute Bridge is a floor-based hip extension with added demand to keep the knees tracking outward. Use repeatable sets of Banded Glute Bridge and scale before breathing speed causes range of motion or control to disappear.

| Avoid if | Avoid or scale Banded Glute Bridge if pain changes the movement or the intended position cannot be controlled. Correct this common fault before adding volume: skipping the setup details: place a mini band above the knees, lie on the back, and plant the feet close enough to keep the shins near vertical. |
| Scaling | Remove the band or shorten the range. |
Prepare the equipment and space: place a mini band above the knees, lie on the back, and plant the feet close enough to keep the shins near vertical.
Brace before creating tension and confirm that the working joints feel comfortable.
Perform the repetition: press the knees gently into the band, lift the hips by squeezing the glutes, pause, and lower without losing alignment.
Pause briefly in the strongest position instead of using momentum to rush through it.
Return under control, reset balance and tension, then begin the next repetition.
Skipping the setup details: place a mini band above the knees, lie on the back, and plant the feet close enough to keep the shins near vertical.
Using more resistance than can be controlled through the complete range.
Turning a strength or accessory movement into a rushed conditioning repetition.
Ignoring the main safety boundary: Do not chase height by arching the lower back; the rep ends when the hips and ribs stop moving together.
Focus on this action: press the knees gently into the band, lift the hips by squeezing the glutes, pause, and lower without losing alignment.
Use a smooth return; the eccentric phase should look as organised as the working phase.
End the set when posture, joint alignment, or anchor stability changes.
Progress tension or load only after every repetition follows the same path.
Easier / Beginner
Remove the band or shorten the range.
Harder / Advanced
Add a longer pause, elevate the feet, or use a single-leg progression.

Banded Glute Bridge works best when its movement pattern and setup match the session. Use it for controlled strength, accessory, or specifically compatible conditioning work, not simply to increase exercise count.
Remove the band or shorten the range. Once every repetition is stable, progress with this option: Add a longer pause, elevate the feet, or use a single-leg progression.
Do not chase height by arching the lower back; the rep ends when the hips and ribs stop moving together.
