Band Squat is a squat variation that adds progressive resistance while keeping the load lighter than a barbell. Equipment: Resistance band. To establish a repeatable position, stand on the band with feet at squat width and hold it securely at the shoulders. From there, sit between the hips with the knees tracking over the toes, then stand tall against the rising band tension. The movement belongs in deliberate strength, accessory, or compatible conditioning work rather than being added randomly for novelty. The band must stay centred under the feet; stop if it rolls, frays, or pulls the knees out of alignment. Select resistance that preserves the intended pattern from the first repetition to the last.
Quick answer
Band Squat is a squat variation that adds progressive resistance while keeping the load lighter than a barbell. Use repeatable sets of Band Squat and scale before breathing speed causes range of motion or control to disappear.

| Avoid if | Avoid or scale Band Squat if pain changes the movement or the intended position cannot be controlled. Correct this common fault before adding volume: skipping the setup details: stand on the band with feet at squat width and hold it securely at the shoulders. |
| Scaling | Use a lighter band or perform an unresisted box squat. |
Prepare the equipment and space: stand on the band with feet at squat width and hold it securely at the shoulders.
Brace before creating tension and confirm that the working joints feel comfortable.
Perform the repetition: sit between the hips with the knees tracking over the toes, then stand tall against the rising band tension.
Pause briefly in the strongest position instead of using momentum to rush through it.
Return under control, reset balance and tension, then begin the next repetition.
Skipping the setup details: stand on the band with feet at squat width and hold it securely at the shoulders.
Using more resistance than can be controlled through the complete range.
Turning a strength or accessory movement into a rushed conditioning repetition.
Ignoring the main safety boundary: The band must stay centred under the feet; stop if it rolls, frays, or pulls the knees out of alignment.
Focus on this action: sit between the hips with the knees tracking over the toes, then stand tall against the rising band tension.
Use a smooth return; the eccentric phase should look as organised as the working phase.
End the set when posture, joint alignment, or anchor stability changes.
Progress tension or load only after every repetition follows the same path.
Easier / Beginner
Use a lighter band or perform an unresisted box squat.
Harder / Advanced
Use more band tension, add a pause at depth, or use a slow descent.

Band Squat works best when its movement pattern and setup match the session. Use it for controlled strength, accessory, or specifically compatible conditioning work, not simply to increase exercise count.
Use a lighter band or perform an unresisted box squat. Once every repetition is stable, progress with this option: Use more band tension, add a pause at depth, or use a slow descent.
The band must stay centred under the feet; stop if it rolls, frays, or pulls the knees out of alignment.
