Band Shoulder Press is an overhead press whose resistance increases toward lockout, rewarding a stable stacked finish. Equipment: Resistance band. To establish a repeatable position, stand on the centre of the band and bring both hands to shoulder height with wrists over elbows. From there, brace the trunk, press overhead without leaning back, and lower slowly as band tension decreases. The movement belongs in deliberate strength, accessory, or compatible conditioning work rather than being added randomly for novelty. Shorten the range or choose another press if overhead work causes pain or forces the ribs to flare. Select resistance that preserves the intended pattern from the first repetition to the last.
Quick answer
Band Shoulder Press is an overhead press whose resistance increases toward lockout, rewarding a stable stacked finish. Use repeatable sets of Band Shoulder Press and scale before breathing speed causes range of motion or control to disappear.

| Avoid if | Avoid or scale Band Shoulder Press if pain changes the movement or the intended position cannot be controlled. Correct this common fault before adding volume: skipping the setup details: stand on the centre of the band and bring both hands to shoulder height with wrists over elbows. |
| Scaling | Use one foot on a lighter band or press one arm at a time. |
Prepare the equipment and space: stand on the centre of the band and bring both hands to shoulder height with wrists over elbows.
Brace before creating tension and confirm that the working joints feel comfortable.
Perform the repetition: brace the trunk, press overhead without leaning back, and lower slowly as band tension decreases.
Pause briefly in the strongest position instead of using momentum to rush through it.
Return under control, reset balance and tension, then begin the next repetition.
Skipping the setup details: stand on the centre of the band and bring both hands to shoulder height with wrists over elbows.
Using more resistance than can be controlled through the complete range.
Turning a strength or accessory movement into a rushed conditioning repetition.
Ignoring the main safety boundary: Shorten the range or choose another press if overhead work causes pain or forces the ribs to flare.
Focus on this action: brace the trunk, press overhead without leaning back, and lower slowly as band tension decreases.
Use a smooth return; the eccentric phase should look as organised as the working phase.
End the set when posture, joint alignment, or anchor stability changes.
Progress tension or load only after every repetition follows the same path.
Easier / Beginner
Use one foot on a lighter band or press one arm at a time.
Harder / Advanced
Use more pre-tension, a half-kneeling stance, or a slow eccentric.

Band Shoulder Press works best when its movement pattern and setup match the session. Use it for controlled strength, accessory, or specifically compatible conditioning work, not simply to increase exercise count.
Use one foot on a lighter band or press one arm at a time. Once every repetition is stable, progress with this option: Use more pre-tension, a half-kneeling stance, or a slow eccentric.
Shorten the range or choose another press if overhead work causes pain or forces the ribs to flare.
